Mary I. Diede, age 83, of 1345 Michigan Ave SW, Huron, died Saturday, September 6, 2008 at SunQuest Healthcare Center.
Her funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at St. Martin Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m. and a Rosary at 7 p.m.; or Wednesday morning one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
Mary Diede was born Mary Ida Kappler on August 15, 1925, to William and Bertha (Halter) Kappler in Armour SD. In approximately 1927 the family moved to Huron. During World War II she worked for Swifts & Company.
On June 2, 1949, she married Christian Diede in Huron, SD. She worked at St. Johns Hospital & Huron Regional Medical Center for more than twenty years as a Nurses Aid. She retired from the hospital in 1985. Mary and Chris spent their retirement visiting their children, watching their grandkids activities, gardening, canning and baking monster cookies for their grandkids.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.
She is survived by her two sons, Ron (Catherine) Diede of Aberdeen, and Randy (Kelli) Diede of Huron; a daughter Val (Tim) Kutz of Venice, Fl.; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Kutz, Christopher Diede, Brian Diede, Samantha Diede, Robert Diede, Stephen Diede, Scott Diede; and one sister, Bernice (Melvin) Rex of Salem Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bertha Kappler; her husband, Christian Diede on February 16, 2005, one brother, William Kappler Jr. and two sisters, Louise Trowbridge and Gladys Davis.
