Marvin Winter, age 80, of 1345 Michigan Ave SW, Huron, died Friday, March 21, 2008, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Hunt officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM or one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday afternoon. Marvin George Winter was born June 9, 1927 to Dewald and Pauline (Guthmiller) Winter in Parkston, SD. Marvin grew up on the family farm, graduated from Parkston High School and served in the Army during the Korean war. Marvin married Darles Hotchkiss June 6, 1954 and they resided in Huron. He enjoyed a successful career with Farmers Union Insurance for over 30 years achieving many awards and recognition for his sales. He was a member of Toastmasters, First Baptist Church and Wesleyan Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, served on several boards and enjoyed the Mens Breakfast group. Marvin loved spending time at the family farm, gardening, fishing and camping. Marvin and Shirley Schied were married October 4th, 1989 and enjoyed their retirement years together. Marvin worked part time through out his retirement and enjoyed traveling. He is survived by his 3 children, Rhonda (Mike) Manning of Brooklyn Park, MN, Mary Ann Winter of Huron and Scott Winter; their mother Darles Gilbert; and Shirley Schied, 2 brothers Ervin (Geneva) Winter of Mitchell, and Richard (Judy) Winter of Parkston, and 1 sister Lillian (Fred) Timm of Temecula, CA, 5 grandchildren, Erin (Terence) Taylor, Jon (Teri) Manning, Nathan Winter, Hillary Winter, and Hope Winter; 2 great grandchildren, DeVerin Henderson and Trent Taylor (children of Erin and Terence); and 5 nieces and 6 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 infant brothers and his son Ronald Winter.
