Marlys Green, age 92, of Huron and Yale, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Faulkton Senior Living in Faulkton, South Dakota. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron with burial to follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Yale. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday morning

Marlys Ramona Holzerland was born to Eric and Minnie Schultz Holzerland in her farm home near Waubay, South Dakota ,on  April 24, 1932.She attended the county grade school for 8 years and went to Waubay High School. Upon graduation she enrolled in beauty school in Watertown, South Dakota, for one year and worked at the Granite Beauty Shop as a beautician. She met Claude Green there, and they were married on April 25, 1954, at Zion Lutheran Church, Waubay.

Claude took over the lumberyard in 1955 at Yale, South Dakota, where they moved and built their home. Four children were born to them, Claudia, Cindy, Curtis, and Craig. They lived in Yale until 2008 when they closed the lumberyard and moved to Huron, South Dakota. Claude passed away in 2009 and Marlys eventually moved to Sunquest Village in Huron. She moved to Cresbard, South Dakota, to live with her daughter, Claudia and her husband, Russell Scotter, in 2018.

While she lived in Yale she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was very active in the church. She taught Sunday School and confirmation classes and was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League her entire life. They transferred membership to Mt. Calvary Lutheran church when the Yale church closed. After her family was grown she was a home care giver at Prairie Crossings and Home Instead.

Marlys is survived by her children, Claudia(Russell) Scotter of Cresbard, South Dakota, Cindy(Jeff)Burich of Sturgis, South Dakota, Curtis Green of Sioux City, Iowa, and Craig(Connie)Green of Aberdeen, South Dakota; grandchildren, Deirdre and Micah(Jessica) Scotter, Kalee(Jon) Bakken, Ryan(Sudavi) Burich, Brad(Woodrie) Burich, Sarah(Jeremy) Bolden, Aaron(Samantha), Hannah, and Mariah Green, and Savannah Green; and 12 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Barbara Holzerland, Lynn and Melva Green.

Marlys is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Claude, her brother, Arnold  Holzerland, grandson Lucas Green, and her parents, Minnie and Eric Holzerland.
