Marlis (VonEye) Evans, age 69, of Des Moines and formerly of Huron, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Her funeral service wqas held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Welter Funeral Home with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation, with her family present, was from 5-7 p.m, on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Welter Funeral Home.

Marlis Jean VonEye was born on December 4, 1954 in Huron, South Dakota to parents Gerrit VonEye, Jr. and Elizabeth (Knutson) VonEye. She attended schools in Huron, graduating in 1973.

To know Marlis, was to love her. She had an unconditional love for her children and family. Her dedication to her family was unwavering; she was always lifting peoples spirts by telling them to "let go of the negative." Marlis had a great sense of humor, her laughter and positivity were so contagious. If you were having a bad day, she was there to be supportive and give you great advice. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She will be missed by her children, Jesse Evans of Brookings, Katie VonEye of Brookings, Misti VonEye of Des Moines, IA, Kristi Evans of Brookings, and Angela Evans of Anderson, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Connor Evans of Sioux Falls, Nathan VonEye of Brookings, and Michael VonEye of Brookings, Diamond VonEye of Des Moines, and Hannah Sweet of California; her brothers, Paul (Shari) VonEye of Alpena and Daniel VonEye of Flandreau.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gerrit and Elizabeth, and two brothers David and Ernest VonEye.
