Marion F. Cain, age 84 of Huron, SD, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.
His funeral service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Mt. Olivet Church in Huron, with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday, August 25 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Marion F. Cain, the son of Oliver and Nellie (Lakin) Cain, was born on October 26, 1932 in Indianapolis, IN. He spent all of his growing up years in and around Indianapolis, and graduated from Wilkinson High School. Marion also graduated from the Minnesota Bible College in Minneapolis, MN with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Bachelor of Theology Degree in 1954.
On June 11, 1953, Marion married Joan Hazeltine in Beloit, WI. Together they had ministries in Readstown, WI; Brookport, IL; Eau Claire, WI; Huron, SD, and Spencer, SD.
Marion was a member of the Huron Christian Church, where he served as minister, elder, and teacher. He also was camp manager at the Christian Harbor Church Camp in Ladysmith, WI for ten years, and was also camp manager of Siouxland Christian Camp in Mitchell, SD.
Marion was the maintenance supervisor at the Huron Nursing Home from 1984 until he retired in 1998. After retirement, He worked for Mills Property Management Company as the maintenance supervisor of the Huron and Courtyard Apartments.
Marion was an avid fisherman, hunter, and bowler. He was president of the Huron Bowling Association for two years. He was also a lifetime member of the Huron Bowling association and was inducted into the American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame.
Marion was a volunteer fireman for seventeen years, and drove a school bus for five years. He was a Boy Scout Leader and coached little league for several years. Marion also served as a state official softball umpire during his many years in Huron.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joan of Huron, SD; his children, John (Peggy) Cain of Huron, Ann (Steven) Boyd also of Huron, and Sarah Gruenhagen of Hamburg, MN; eight grandchildren: Greg (Joanie) Cain, Kayce (John) Tschetter, Michelle (Jason) Trent, Matt (Laney) Boyd, Mike Boyd, David (Suzy) Wernimint, Andy (Jessica) Wernimont, and Peter (Andrea) Wernimont; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Jean (Chris) Hansen of Peoria, AZ and Lorraine Hazeltine of Loves Park, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters; and two sons-in-law.
