Marilyn K. (Knouse) Dollenbacher, age 83, of Brookings and formerly of Huron, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at United Living Community in Brookings, SD. Her Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Welter Funeral Home with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
Marilyn Kay Dollenbacher was born on December 11, 1937 in Nassau, Minnesota to parents William and Clara (Redepenning) Maass. She attended school in Nassau to fourth grade and then moved to Cavour, SD where she graduated from high school in 1955.
Marilyn married Donald E. Knouse on September 2, 1955 in Iroquois, SD. To this union, two children were born, Donald, Jr. "Butch" and Donna. Donald passed away in 1985. Marilyn married Francis "Gus" Dollenbacher on August 16, 1986 in Cavour. He passed away in 2003.
From 1969-1985, Marilyn and Donald owned and operated Don's Locker in Cavour. From 1990-1995, Marilyn owned and operated Gus' Steak N Stuff in Iroquois and also worked for Pioneer Seeds, Donn Juan's and the Roadhouse until retirement in 2009.
In her spare time, Marilyn enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and playing cards. She also loved to visit with friends and family.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Donald "Butch" Knouse of Lake Preston and Donna (Ed) Bain of Volga; step-children, Dale (Robin) Dollenbacher of Bettendorf, Iowa, Joan Jackson of Elgin, Illinois, and Tammara (Kevin) Wilcox of Carmichael, California; 7 grandchildren, James (Justin) Bain, Jason (Tynna) Bain, Liza (Thad) Mathews, Matthew Dollenbacher, Rayna Jackson, Joy Wilcox and Joshua Wilcox; 3 great-grandchildren Bryson, Grady, and Dawsyn Bain; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; 3 sisters, Clara, Peggy and Lois; and 6 brothers, William, Vinton, Albert, Loren, Walter and Charles; and step-son-in-law, Craig Jackson.
