Marie Kirsch, age 98, of Huron, SD, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron, SD. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial at St. Wilfrid Catholic Cemetery in Woonsocket, SD. Visitation with family present will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Marie Burkel, the daughter of John and Anna (Hoffmann) Burkel, was born on December 27, 1915, in White Lake, SD. She attended school in Woonsocket, SD. Marie married Lawrence Kirsch on October 19, 1940 in Woonsocket, SD. The couple farmed near Woonsocket until Lawrence's death in 1983. Marie moved to Huron, SD in 1990. Marie was a member of St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket and the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron. She was a member of the St. Francis Circle and the Catholic Daughters in Woonsocket. Marie also volunteered at the St. Francis Shop in Huron, SD for many years. Marie enjoyed gardening, sewing, embroidery, and baking. Marie loved to visit her family and spend time with her grandchildren. Grateful for having shared in Marie's life are her two sons Gerald Kirsch of Huron, SD and David (Beth) Kirsch of Gillette, WY; four daughters: Marcella (Jim) Rogers of Crooks, SD, Marcelene (Delbert) Spencer of Huron, SD, Ramona (Glenn) Naser of Wessington Springs, SD, and Linda (Melvin) Moeding of Huron, SD; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Christine Strelow of Milwaukee, WI; sister-in-law, Lorene Kirsch of Bismark, ND; and many nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence in 1983; infant son, Clarence Kirsch; great-great-granddaughter, Alyssa Spencer; brother, Nick Burkel; two sisters, Loretta Reimer and Martha Kirsch; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
