Marie Kludt Johnson, age 85, of 1345 Michigan Ave SW, Huron, and formerly of Iroquois and Faulkton, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 29th at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Dale Sattgast officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 PM Saturday afternoon at the Faulkton Cemetery. Friends may call this Friday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM or Saturday morning prior to the service at the church. Marie Johnson was born Marie Hawley on August 7, 1920, to Raymond and Anna (Zastrow) Hawley in Jackson Township, Sanborn County, rural Woonsocket. She received her early education in a rural school and attended Woonsocket High School. In 1939, Marie married August Kludt at Woonsocket. They lived in California, Nebraska and Missouri. In 1946, she moved to Iroquois where she sold Avon and fixed hair at home. In August 1984, Marie married Oren Johnson and they moved to Faulkton where she worked at the Faulkton School Library. Oren died in 1995 and one year later Marie moved to Huron where she has lived since that time. Marie was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 50 year member of the Rebeccas Lodge, and she was State President of the Rebecca Lodge in 1971. Her hobbies were sewing, fancy work and crocheting. She is survived by her son, Curtis (Nancy) Kludt of Centerville; her daughter, Barb McQuistion of Pierre; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; 1 brother, Earl (Joyce) Hawley of California; 2 sisters, Mabel Bussell of Huron, and Lois Emerson of California; 3 sisters-in-law, Mary Hawley of Sturgis, SD, Edna Hawley of Wessington Springs and Helen Hawley of Huron; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, 1 granddaughter, Michele Kludt, 1 son-in-law, Fred McQuistion, 1 sister, Lorena Hotchkiss; 5 brothers, John Hawley, Harry Hawley, Francis Hawley, William Bud Hawley, and Donald Hawley; 3 brothers-in-law, Clifford Hotchkiss, Ted Bussell and Chuck Emerson; and 2 sisters-in-law, Grace Hawley, and Jo Hawley.
