Marie Danforth, age 97, of 605 Beach Ave SE, Huron, died Monday, January 29, 2007, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 3rd at the American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call Friday afternoon and evening or Saturday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Saturday afternoon. The family will be present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday evening with Sharing of Memories at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Marie Danforth was born Marie Ida Beck on November 17, 1909, to Chris Jensen and Anna Marie (Pedersen) Beck at Cavour, SD. On August 17, 1927, Marie married C. Wayne Danforth at De Smet, SD. She lived in the following communities; Raymond, Rapid City, San Francisco, Vancouver, Denver, Watertown and moved to Huron in 1978. She was primarily a housewife and mother. She was a master seamstress and an expert welder. She worked in retail sales and was a buyer for womens fashion. Marie had several highlights in her life. During World War II, Marie took first place in a seven shipyard overhead welding contest held in Vancouver, WA. Her award was presented to her by Red Skelton. Marie and Wayne were loyal supporters and followers of Lawrence Welk. They loved to dance to his music. Last, but not least, she was a fierce competitor while throwing dice. She took the game and winning very seriously. Her hobbies were sewing, cooking, gardening and playing dice. She is survived by 3 daughters, Deonne Filipek of Watertown, Darlene (Richard) Westbrook of Denver, CO and Doraine Wilson of Huron; 1 daughter-in-law, Pat Danforth of Huron; 17 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Helene Van Buskirk-Timm of Huron, Evelyn McIntyre of Letcher and Ida (Dave) Barraclough of McMinnville, OR and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, son Donald, one grandson, one great grandson, her parents, and 5 brothers, Andrew, Art, Chris, Hans, and Fred and 2 sisters, Anna and Ethelyn.
