Marguerite Burke, age 88, of West Bend, WI, formerly of Huron, SD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, May 3, 2016 at the Cottages at Cedar Run Memory Care Assisted Living in West Bend, WI.

Her memorial service,  will be  10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Huron, SD with burial at St. Martin Cemetery; visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Church on Saturday.

Marguerite Ann Greenan was born on June 1, 1927 to John & Elizabeth (Johnson) Greenan in Yale, SD.  She was the youngest of seven children.  She was always sharing stories of how she rode horses and even had a pet duck.  She graduated from Cavour High School in 1946 and attended the Notre Dame Academy in Mitchell, SD graduating with a teacher's certificate.  She taught school in the Cavour area until her marriage to James Robert Burke on May 26, 1953.

Jim and Marguerite traveled around the state of South Dakota in their trailer to Jim's construction jobs until 1956 when they bought their home in Huron.  They raised four children in that home; Robert (Amelia) Burke, Sturgeon Bay, WI, Candace (Mark) Burger, Cedarburg, WI, Gregory (Britta) Burke, Fishers, IN & Jayne (Jeffrey) Babbe, Rapid City, SD.  Ours was a home full of activity, laughter and music.

Marguerite worked in the Huron Public School district from 1970-1999 in various roles from lunch lady at Wilson Elementary to Title I Aid at McKinley Elementary.  She loved teaching children and she shared her love of learning with her 9 grandchildren:  Adrian Burke, Dominic Burke, Stephen Burger, Michael (Beth) Burger, Lauren Burger, Alexander Burke, Meghan Babbe, Zachary Babbe & Jake Babbe, and her only great-grandchild Clyde Hernandez Babbe.

Jim and Marguerite were married for 46 years until Jim's death in 2000. She moved to Moraga, California in 2004 at age 77, never losing her spirit for adventure.  Then in 2013, she moved to Grafton, WI to be near her children and grandchildren.

Marguerite passed away peacefully on May 3, 2016 at the Cottages at Cedar Run Memory Care Assisted Living in West Bend, WI.

She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, love for her family, adventurous spirit, sassy attitude, and love of walking.   We are forever grateful for all the love, laughter and great stories we have to share.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim and her six siblings; John, Leland, Joseph, Leon, Kathleen, and Agnes.
