Margaret T. Peterson, age 81, of 1345 Michigan Ave. SW, Huron, died Sunday, November 6, 2005, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 9, at the Welter Funeral Home with Father Joe Holzhauser officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday until time of service at the funeral home. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Huron Adult Day Care Center or Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Margaret Teresa Howard was born on July 17, 1924, to Guy and Esther (Thorne) Howard in Capa, SD. She attended schools in Midland, Sturgis and Onida, SD, and then moved to Huron in 1944. Margaret enjoyed people and worked for families in Huron. She traveled with her parents where they spent several winters in Texas. On March 19, 1972, Margaret married Norman Peterson in Clark, SD. They lived in Huron and Mt. Vernon, SD, where her husband had a stroke and died. Margaret moved back to Huron where she helped her aging parents until they passed away. Margaret attended the Adult Day Care Center in Huron for 13 years where she enjoyed the staff and the patients. When her health failed, she moved to the Huron Nursing Home in September of 1999. Her friendly smile and bright hello to nurses and aides made her a favorite to many people in the home. Her faith in Jesus was strong and evident as she prayed for family and friends. Her favorite pastimes were embroidering, reading, visiting, and singing. Her family were her dearest friends and just recently all of them were together for a Howard reunion which she enjoyed so much. She is survived by 3 sisters and 2 brothers; Vernita (Alvin) Nicholson of Minneapolis, MN, Barbara (Kenneth) Voas of Rapid City, Jim Howard of Brookings, Rita (Alfred) Meyer of John Day, OR, and Bernie (Alyce) Howard of Huron; many nephews and nieces who were very special to her and she remembered them on birthdays and at Christmas. Cathy Strand adopted Margaret as her grandmother when she worked at the nursing home and her kindnesses to Margaret were exceptional. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman in 1975; and 1 sister-in-law, Catherine Howard.
