Obituary

Margaret Louise "Margie" Lips, age 85 of Hitchcock, SD, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield, SD. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2015 at the Hitchcock United Methodist Church with burial at the Altoona Cemetery in Hitchcock. Visitation, with the family present, will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 19 at the Methodist Church in Hitchcock, with a prayer service to be held at 6:30; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Margaret Louise Oechsle, the daughter of LeRoy and Hazel (Payne) Oechsle, was born on November 22, 1929 in Aberdeen, SD. She attended country school near the farm in Lake Township and graduated from Redfield High School in 1947. Margie worked various jobs before she married Lyle Maxwell Lips on February 7, 1950. The couple made their home on the farm near Hitchcock, SD. They had two children, Lyle born in 1951 and Vickie in 1954. Margie started working at the Hitchcock Public School in 1955. She worked as the secretary/business manager for 46 years before retiring in 2004. Margie was a member of the Hitchcock United Methodist Church and served as secretary-treasurer for many years.She was also a life time member of TOPS Margie enjoyed crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles, growing flowers at home, and spending time with the family. Grateful for having shared in Margie's life are her two children, Lyle Lips of Hitchcock, SD and Vickie Lips of Aberdeen, SD; her brothers and sisters: Gladys Swope of Redfield, SD, Mona (Jerome) Kleinsasser of Hitchcock, SD, Verna Rodman of Huron, SD, Donald Oechsle of Fairmont, MN, Sharolyn (Don) Johnson of Lawton, OK, and Dale (Margaret) Oechsle of Hitchcock, SD; brother-in-law, Veryl (Kay) Eschen of Kiowa, CO; and her many nieces and nephews and great- nieces and nephews. Margie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max; three brothers, Junior, Gaylen, and Richard; and her sisters, Doris and LaVonne. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made in Margie's name to the Hitchcock United Methodist Church.
