Obituary

Margaret L. Johnson entered into Christ's Kingdom when she was in her 80's, but into her Eternal life on June 15th, 2015 at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. Her spirit and memories will be carried by those who loved her so dearly. Her signature color was "Pink" and she loved bling, but always tastefully done. She was "Queen Mother" to her family, not because of a demonstrative personality (quite the opposite) but because of her quiet, strong wisdom and tenacious love. Born an identical twin to Loren and Edith Hughart in Huron, SD in 1920, Margaret and Marian joined their older sister, Thelma, for a place in the family. In spite of a break up in their family, these events solidified their connectivity together as twins. Their mother paraded and promoted them publicly and on stage. They danced and sang for President Coolidge and were greeted warmly with pats on their heads by Charles Lindbergh. Moving from North Dakota to Rapid City, ranching in Montana, and to their grandparents home in Mitchell, SD - they entered and each met the love of their lives at Dakota Wesleyan College. Margaret married the very handsome and athletic Dave Johnson. After a brief time teaching in Iroquois, SD, they lived in Highmore and then came full circle back to Huron. Being innately very shy, and with her disdain for public life, she pioneered work with children suffering the effects of polio and those with special needs at the Helen Buchanan School for over 40 years. Impossible to encapsulate her life, she was a teacher, an artist, a published songwriter, valedictorian, "macgyver" of all things. She will always have a loving and esteemed place in the hearts of her family. Grateful for her life: husband (deceased) - John Davis (Dave) Johnson, son (deceased) - Gary Johnson (Linda), daughter - Kimeron (Daniel Stahly) of Sioux Falls, daughter - Pamela (Richard Wilson) of Nixa, MO. Her grandchildren are: Joseph Stahly (deceased), Jill (Ryan Dodd), Ivory Stahly, Beth Wilson, Kristin Thelen, Matthew Johnson, Anna Johnson, Nathaniel Johnson, Katarina Johnson and great grandchildren: Elyss, Ethan, and Evan Dodd. An informal time of gathering and remembrances with family and friends will be Saturday, June 20th from 4 to 6 pm at the Huron Christian Church - 777 21st Street SE, Huron, SD In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Margaret's name to GMA for the Children's Therapy Center at PO Box 1355, Kent, WA 98035-1355.
