Obituary

Margaret M. Irving, 85, of Huron, formerly of Letcher, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 7, with her loving family present.  Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Thursday, May 11, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron, with burial at the St. Wilfrid's Cemetery, Woonsocket.  Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with a scripture prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by the rosary; or visitation one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church.

Margaret M. Irving, daughter of Nicholas Steichen and Frances (Schmidt) Steichen was born October 17, 1931, at home on a family farm in Jerauld County, south of Lane South Dakota.  She attended grade school at Steichen and Goergen County School in Blaine Township in Jerauld County.  She attended high school at Woonsocket High School graduating in 1949.

Margaret Irving was united in marriage with William Eugene Irving on January 20, 1951, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Bill was serving in the Army at Camp Carson, Colorado.  During her time in Colorado Springs, she worked in the office at the Woolworth Store.  The couple resided on the Ray Irving farm west of Letcher, in Elliott Township from 1952-1959 and then moved into Letcher in 1959 until 2010 where she moved to Huron and lived at Stoneybrook Suites Assisted Living.

Margaret worked 1949-1952 at the Sanborn County Bank in Woonsocket, 1952-1953 at the Department of Game, Fish and Parks in Woonsocket, November 17, 1962, to March 2010; she worked at the Live Stock State Bank (now CorTrust Bank) In Letcher.

She is a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Huron.  She was a member of the Altar Society, St. Wilfrid's Church, Woonsocket, L etcher Senior Citizens, Ladies Pinochle Club, and Ladies Supper Club (over 50 years).

She enjoyed spending time with family, playing and hanging out with grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing cards (pinochle), reading, watching TV, and going out to eat.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three children, Fred (Mona) Irving, Sioux Falls, SD; Edwin (Kathy) Huron, SD; Julie (Ron Schabot) Baysinger, Rozet, Wyoming; 6 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, and two brother s Leonard Steichen, Woonsocket; and Tom Steichen, New Mexico.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, (William Irving), four brothers Carl, Bernard, Edward, and Harry, one sister Lucy in infancy.
