Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Dormady, age 92, of Burnsville, MN and formerly of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Carefree Senior Living in Burnsville.

Margaret "Peggy" Dormady was born on July 12, 1927 in Huron, South Dakota to Mae and Herb Mahowald. She was always called Peggy. She was our Mom and this is our message of love about her.

Growing up she was the little girl pulling the wagon with her father to go to town to get commodities for the family. Times were tough. She was a student at St. Theresa's School who wrote poetry and entered poetry contests. Her love of poetry lasted her entire life.

Mom was well liked in high school and had a group of girlfriends that called themselves "The Silly Seven." We found a book of mom's favorite poems and there was the picture stuffed inside the book of the 'silly seven.' She never forgot those girls or that time in her life.

Her life as a wife started in 1947 when she married Pete Dormady. They settled down in Huron and started a family. Peggy and Pete were very active socially, they traveled extensively and loved their family and friends deeply.

Mom worked at the Huron High School lunch program where she knew every student's name. Because of that, no matter where she traveled, somehow a young person would be there and say, "Hello, Mrs. Dormady." She always had a bright smile on her face and still remembered all of them.

Our mom made the best chocolate chip and sugar cookies in the world! She knew how to make a May Day basket and stuff it full of treats. For game nights at our home, she was the first one at the table. Mom was a champion bridge player who loved putting on bridge parties. There would be 3 card tables with name plates and a dessert table for all. She loved Halloween and always dressed up for it. She had better costumes than us kids. Mom was a fun loving, energetic mother. She loved telling jokes and making people laugh. Mom would always have a little gift for you. It could be baked cookies, coffee cups, or some treasure she found at a garage sale.  At a St. Patrick's Day party not long ago, she was voted the Irish Queen. That Irish Queen was our mom, forever in our hearts. She will be loved by her family, "forever and a day."

There will be a private graveside burial at St. Martin's Cemetery. The pandemic of 2020 has brought us a tough decision in a tough time. If you knew Peggy, you knew you were loved.

Peggy is survived by her daughters, Kathy Waldorf and Jeanne Dormady, son Bob (Tami) Dormady, daughters-in-law, Ann and Carol Dormady, grandchildren Tracy (Karen) Appelbaum, Tony (Katie) Goembel, Josh (Christina) Dormady, Beckie (Tim) Wolske, great-grandchildren, Lexi, Ella, Maddy, Kelsey, Evelyn, Ian and Deliah. Sisters-in-law, Patsy Classick, Mary Alice (Elmer) Bartel, Jane Kosse, Gigi (Gary) Allen, Sally Bayles, and Kitty (Roger) Johnson, brother-in-law, Mike (Jennifer) Dormady; and several nieces and nephews around the world.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband Peter, sons Tom and Larry, sister Kathleen Fidone, sisters-in-law, Muggs Stratton and Joanne Dormady, brothers-in-law, Tony Fidone, Jim Dormady, Neal Kosse, Ivan Maas, Russ Bayles, and Dennis Classick.

Mom wanted all of her friends and neighbors to know how grateful she was to them for a great life in Huron, South Dakota.
