Marcus Carl Edward Kohlmeyer, son of Carl and Elsie (Witthoeft) Kohlmeyer, was born on August 17, 1921, in Wolsey, SD. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wolsey by his uncle, Pastor Leyhe. He attended Weeks Country School in Allen Township near Wolsey.

Following his formal education he worked for different farmers in the Wolsey area. From 1941-1952 he farmed with his father on the family homestead.

On June 1, 1952, Marcus married Phyllis Friese at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron. Marcus worked at Verschoor Chevrolet until 1953 when they moved to the Ernest Ely farm north of Wolsey. In 1958, they returned to Huron where Marcus worked for Buds Texaco Station. In 1961 he worked for Jones Company Dodge until 1966 when he began a 20-year career at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in the building maintenance department. He retired in 1986.

He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where he was very active as head usher for many years, past church trustee and financial secretary, and past LLL (Lutheran Laymens League) Representative. He took great pride in his duties of lighting the altar candles for services and the ringing of the church bells at the conclusion of funerals. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers, on the board of directors for several telephone companies, Telco Credit Union, and the Huron Rovers Camping Club.

He enjoyed the many family get-togethers; helping at the church; camping; and coffee time with his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Huron; 3 children, Nancy (Michael) Leyba of Sioux Falls, Mark Kohlmeyer of Huron, and Marilyn (Terry) McHenry of Huron; 3 grandchildren, Chad Kohlmeyer, Becky (Benjamin) Dragt, and Christopher McHenry; 2 great grandchildren, Kierra Dragt and Conner Dragt; 1 sister, Amanda Noack of Huron; 3 brothers, Leonard (Beverly) Kohlmeyer of Huron, Nathaniel (Corinne) Kohlmeyer of Huron, and Max (Phyllis) Kohlmeyer of Wolsey; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Doris Kohlmeyer; an infant brother, Marcel Kohlmeyer; and 1 brother-in-law, Arnold Noack.
