Malvin Bitterman, age 88, of Huron, died Saturday June 30, 2012, at his home. His funeral service will be 10:30 am Friday, July 6, 2012, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 6-8 pm Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Welter Funeral Home; or Friday morning one hour prior to the service. Malvin Edward Bitterman was born February 28, 1924, in Delmont, SD, to Edward and Leontena (Bentz) Bitterman. He attended rural Hand Co. Schools through the eighth grade. Later in his life he attained his GED. Malvin married Doris Ruth Fischer at the Presbyterian Church in Miller on June 1, 1948. The couple made their home at Miller where they operated a grocery store for several years, later moving to Lake Andes where they managed Rest Haven Resort. They moved to Clarissa, MN, where they operated a dairy farm, and in 1972, moved to Wheaton, MN, where they operated a Standard Oil Truck Stop and Cafe. In 1974 they moved to Huron and have lived here since that time. While still living in Huron, they owned and operated the "Lion's Den" in Howard for a number of years. Malvin enjoyed auctioneering, hunting, fishing, bingo, and especially spending time with his family. He is survived by four daughters, Karen (Frank) Spiczka of Tyler, MN, Pam (Don) Jones of Britton, Rhonda (Randall) Groneberg of Ipswich, and Roberta (Lonny) Drown of Howard; 1 son Randy (Mary) Bitterman of Huron; 15 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Malvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris in 2000; one son, James Malvin Bitterman; two grandsons, Joshua and Andrew Groneberg; and his sister, Verbena (Norman Woodruff )(Harold) Kauffman.
