Mae Vanderhule, age 86, of Huron, SD, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Huron Wesleyan Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.; or Saturday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church. Mae Vanderhule was born Anna Mae Cross, daughter of Raymond and Rosie (Hay) Cross, on August 21, 1925, in Lodi, ND. At the age of 3 years she was adopted and raised by her uncle and aunt, Ed and Lucille Cross. They moved to South Dakota and sometime later settled in Huron. Mae attended elementary school and high school in Huron. On July 27, 1947, Mae married Clarence "Dude" Vanderhule in Huron. Mae was a homemaker. She was a member of Huron Wesleyan Church and the church women's group. Her interests included sewing, ceramics, and church activities. Mae became a resident of Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in January 2003. She is survived by her husband, Clarence of Huron; 2 children, Sheila Anderson of Huron, and Craig (Shelly) Vanderhule of Sioux Falls; 5 grandchildren, Steven Lee Anderson of Chicago, IL, Scott Anderson of Brookings, Stacey (Drew) Anderson of Sioux Falls, Brittany Erickson of Sioux Falls, and Chase (Carle) Vanderhule of Farmington, MN; 1 great granddaughter, Claire Vanderhule. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Rosie Cross; and her adopted parents, Ed and Lucille Cross.
