Macy Davis, age 90, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron with family by her side. Her Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation, with her family present, will be from 5-7 PM on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. A Scripture and Rosary Service will begin at 6:30 on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Macy was born on June 10, 1933, to Olie and Zazel (Morrisey) Piper in Huron South Dakota. She grew up on the Piper Homestead north of Lake Byron and attended Tschetter Country School through the 8th grade. Macy graduated from Huron High School in 1951 and then attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa, graduating in 1955 with a laboratory technologist degree. She began her career at St. John's Hospital in Huron and spent about 40 years working at the Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Macy married Rich Davis on October 22, 1955 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Huron.
Macy loved spending time with her family and gardening, canning the majority of her produce. She was renowned for her canned pickles, tomatoes, and jellies. She stitched and patched many pairs of jeans. She hosted many holidays, breaking out the china, crystal, and silverware.
Macy is survived by her children, Richard Davis, Doland, Beth (Tim) Lueck, Huron, Todd Davis, Huron, daughter in law, Tricia (Roger) Davis, Huron; grandchildren Josh (Sandi) Davis, McKenzie (Tom) Watson, Danielle Davis, Lucas Davis, Katie Davis, Amber (Shawn) Harvey, Michael (Cassy) Lueck, Taylor (Stefan) Davis and Sidnee (Ryne) Johnson; brothers Albert (Kay) Piper, Sioux Falls, George Piper, Huron, sister Mary Ellen (Jim) Aamot, Brookings, sister in law Joyce Piper-Hampton, Huron and 14 great grandchildren.
Macy was preceded in death by her husband Rich Davis, son Brad Davis, brother Bill Piper, parents Olie and Zazel Piper and father and mother-in-law Wylie and Anna (Bartels) Davis.
