Obituary

Mable Lorene McDaniel, age 91, of Huron, passed away Friday, November 25, 2011, at the StoneyBrook Suites in Huron, SD. Her Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at the Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron, with a luncheon to follow after the service, and burial at the Altoona Cemetery, rural Hitchcock, SD. Visitation, with family present, will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2011, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD, with a Prayer service to begin at 7:00 p.m. Monday night; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Mable Lorene Pownell, the daughter of Holland and Alice (Johnston) Pownell, was born on March 10, 1920 in Huron, SD. She attended schools at Fairfield, Broadland, and Hitchcock before graduating from Hitchcock High School in 1938. Mable married Homer McDaniel on July 6, 1940, in Huron, SD. The couple made their home in rural Broadland, SD, and Hitchcock, SD. After Homer's death in 1980, Mable moved to Huron, SD. Mable was a member of the Broadland Methodist Church, the Hitchcock Methodist Church, and the Riverview United Methodist Church. She enjoyed ceramics, knitting, needlepoint, reading, and playing games. Mable enjoyed being a homemaker her entire life. Grateful for having shared in her life are her 3 children: Karon (Ron) Ziegeldorf, Raymond (Lana) McDaniel, and Bernetta (Ray) Wachter, all of Huron, SD; 5 grandchildren: Karla (Dean) Weidner, Kendall McDaniel, Michele (Doug) Monson, Erica Wachter, and Wade (Becky) Ziegeldorf; 7 great-grandchildren: Terri Joe, Lindsey, and Logan Weidner, Ella and Rachel Ziegeldorf, and Madison and Jackson Monson; brother, James (Ada) Pownell, of Huron, SD; sister-in-law, Velma Pownell, of Watertown, SD; and several nieces and nephews. Mable was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Homer; 6 brothers: Harold, Clinton, and Allen, and 3 brothers in infancy; sister Lela Seeley; and several nieces and nephews.
