Mabel L. Winegar, age 93, of Huron, died on Monday, August 11, 2008 at her home in Sun Quest Village, Huron, SD. Her funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday August 16, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron. Burial will be at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation will begin Friday, August 15, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron. The family will be present at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, or one hour before the service on Saturday morning. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night. Mabelle L. Mabel Miller the daughter of Sam B. and Mary Eva (Smith) Miller, was born on November 11, 1914 on the family farm near Miller, SD. She graduated from St. Lawrence (SD) High School in 1932. Mabel attended Wessington Springs Junior College, and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Teaching from Huron College in 1968. Mabel married Harold W. Winegar on February 16, 1935 in Mitchell, SD. The family lived in Toledo, WA, and Miller, Bonilla and Huron, SD. Mabel taught school for 40 years, teaching at various country schools in the area, and for the Huron Public Schools. Mabel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huron, serving as a deacon, and as a member of the Womens Circle. Mabel was a member of the NSCD club of Huron, the Huron Regional Hospital Auxiliary, the Huron Senior Center, and the State and National Teachers Associations. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, discussing politics, watching her students grow and succeed, and spending time with her family and friends. Grateful for having shared her life are her 2 sons, Robert A. (Ann) Winegar, Excelsior, MN, and James D. (Donna) Winegar, Gaylord, MN; 7 grandchildren, Kathi (Robert) Tunheim, Kristi (Donald) Wieser, Roger (Waneta) Smith, and Roben (Julie) Smith, Kim Johnson, Gregory (Pam) Winegar, and Heather (Dan) Condon; 16 great- grandchildren, Robert, Amanda, and Kristina Tunheim; Thomas Wieser, Mitchell and Andrew Smith, Jennifer Nandial, Arlington, Bobbi Jean, and Brian Smith; Ellen and Samuel Lang; Anna and Rebecca Winegar, Taeylre Winegar-Condon, and Kynnley Condon; a great-great-granddaughter; her sister, Carol (Mrs. Earl) Winegar, Huron, SD; and many nieces, nephews, students, and friends. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 1992; her daughter, Sharon Dawn (Winegar) Smith in 2004; 3 brothers, Sam Jr., Kenneth, and James Miller; and 2 sisters, Juanita Daley and Helen Green. Memorials may be made in Mabels name to HRMC Community Hospice, or to the First Presbyterian Church in Huron.
