Mabel L. Costello, age 89, of 1345 Michigan Ave SW, Huron, died Thursday, July 19, 2007 at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 3:30 PM Saturday, July 21st at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Senner officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Friday afternoon and evening or Saturday until the time of service at the Welter Funeral Home. Mabel Costello was born Mabel Louise Grundman on December 4, 1917, to Rudolph and Elfrida (Karlsen) Grundman at Frankfort, SD. She attended school in Hitchcock, graduating from Hitchcock High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Joseph J. Costello at Lincoln, NE. He died March 21, 1988. Throughout their marriage together they resided in Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota then settling at Huron in 1983 where they made their family home. She was employed by Woolworth, J.C. Penny, Sears, and Action Wears while living in Colorado. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge. She volunteered at the Huron Area Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, all types of needlework, card games, traveling, canning, and cooking, with her favorite dish being Lutefisk, doing puzzle books and visiting with family and friends. She is survived by her son, Thomas (Carol) Costello of Plymouth, IA and daughters, Linda (Bill) Isbell of Thornton, CO and Betty Shoultz of Huron; a sister, Clara Hein of Rock Rapids, IA; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Grundman of Spirit Lake, IA and Lavay Costello of Beresford, SD; ten grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Helen Sorenson, a brother, Ralph Grundman, and a grandson, Jeffrey Shoultz. The family requests memorials to be sent to the Huron Area Senior Center or Adult Daycare Center in her memory.
