Mabel Bussell, age 94, of 1345 Michigan Ave SW, Huron, died Saturday, December 15, 2007, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 22, at First United Methodist Church in Huron with Rev. Mark Britton officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at the Welter Funeral Home or Saturday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Mabel Bussell was born Mabel Ruth Hawley on February 3, 1913, to Raymond and Anna (Zastrow) Hawley at Woonsocket, SD. She attended country school in Sanborn County through the 8th grade. On September 28, 1935, Mabel married Theodore Bussell in Huron. Following their marriage, the couple lived in the Bonilla area; in 1945 they farmed in the Hitchcock area until 1957 when they moved into Hitchcock and ran the service station until 1972. Mabel moved to Huron in September 1987, and to the Huron Nursing Home in January 2001. Mabel was a member of the Hitchcock United Methodist Church, and the Methodist Women. Mabels priority in life was her family and over the years they would gather at her home for all occasions. Among her many interests she enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and making elephant-tracks cookies. She is survived by 2 sons, Dale (Kae) Bussell of Tucson, AZ, and Bill Bussell of Rapid City; 1 daughter, Gayle Bussell of Huron; 5 grandchildren, David (Candy) Bussell, Jon Bussell, Jan Gleaves, Sara Bussell, and Bobi (Dale) Wagner; 8 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; 1 sister, Lois Emerson of Garden Grove, CA; 1 brother, Earl (Joyce) Hawley of Taft, CA; 3 sisters-in-law, Helen Hawley of Huron, Mary Hawley of Sturgis, and Edna Hawley of Wessington Springs; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Theodore on June 25, 1981; a great grandson, Christopher Lyn Gunderson; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Bussell; 5 brothers, Harry, John, Donald, Francis, and William Bud Hawley; 2 sisters, Lorena Hotchkiss, and Marie Johnson; 3 brothers-in-law, Clifford Hotchkiss, Oren Johnson, and Charles Emerson; and 2 sisters-in-law, Grace Hawley, and Jo Hawley.
