Lynn Hopper, age 77, of rural Cavour, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at his home. His funeral service will be 1:00 pm Monday, January 13, 2014, at Welter Funeral Home with burial at Manchester Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Monday from Noon to 1:00 pm at Welter Funeral Home. Lynn Arnold Hopper was born on January 7, 1937, near Cavour to O.S. and Ethel (Renshaw) Hopper. Lynn became interested in music at an early age, learning to play the guitar. He played on the radio in Huron and also in Nebraska. Lynn also went out on tour to several states. He played at the South Dakota State Fair with The Louvin Brothers and the North Dakota Fair with Wade Jackson. Lynn served in the U.S. Air Force in 1954. On January 12, 1958, Lynn married Darlene Ferguson in Manchester, SD. They started their own band that they toured with and recorded Country Western music with. Lynn also helped his father blade township roads. He also attended Mitchell Tech and earned a degree in Heating and Air Conditioning. Starting in 1989, until they retired in 2010, the couple ran the Coney Island Café in Huron. Lynn is survived by his wife of 55 years, Darlene Hopper of Cavour; daughter, Sandra (Brett) Aldrich of Cavour; granddaughter, Cassandra "Sadie" Aldrich of Cavour; grandson-in-law, Edras Chua of Kansas City, KS; great grandchildren, Diego and Alejandra Chua; two sisters, Lois (JP) Coughlin of Omaha, NE, and Shirley (Phil) Hess of Roswell, NW; brothers-in-law, Ronald Jorgensen of Huron, Norman (Lois) Ferguson of Huron, Bob (Carla) Ferguson of Iowa, Leonard (Roseann) Ferguson of Illinois, and Donald Ferguson of Minnesota; sister-in-law, Mary (Carl) Borrett of Iowa, and Sharon Crumrine of Wyoming; several nieces and nephews. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Doris (Marshall) Kouf, Beverly Jorgensen, and infant Gladys Hopper; brother, Lyle (Marge) Hopper; granddaughter, Brittney Chua; and great granddaughter, Hannah Chua.
