Lyman D. Nelson, age 79, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at his home in Huron. His Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Burial will be held at a later date at Collins Cemetery in Willow Lake, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon.

Lyman Nelson was born in Huron on December 4, 1943, to William and Esther (Gregory) Nelson. He married Lorraine Anderson on October 3, 1975, at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron. From this union came two daughters Jennifer Renee and Amy Marie.

Lyman had various jobs over the years. He retired from the Department of Transportation in 2005. While working there, he held positions as Line Painting crew foreman and as a Senior High Maintenance worker. After retiring, his new job became spending time with his grandchildren.

His hobbies included almost anything vehicle related. Whether it was shopping for/buying vehicles, washing vehicles, or maintaining vehicles. He also was very aware of the changing seasons. His yard was always the first to get snow removed, leaves cleaned up, or grass mowed. The neighbors were very aware of his use of leaf blowers to move snow, pile leaves, or dry vehicles.

He was always there if we needed a shoulder to cry on, or to be straightened out.

Grateful for sharing in his life are his daughters Amy Fleischhacker, Jennifer (Jason) Stigge of Huron, four grandchildren Avarey Beals, Cullen Beals (Cassie Valer), Nicolas Fleischhacker, Sarah Beals, and one great grandchild Katerina Gonzalez.

Preceding him in death were his wife Lorraine, his parents Esther and William, stepfather Sam Wipf, brothers Raymond Wipf, James Wipf, and Ronald Nelson.
