Lyle Swanson, age 87, of Huron, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. His memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Monday, August 17, 2026 at Welter Funeral Home with burial at St. Martin Cemetery in Huron. Military honors will be conducted by the Huron Veteran’s Council. Visitation, with his family present, will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday morning until service time.

Lyle Martin Swanson was born on July 9, 1939 in Huron to parents Roy and Julia (Konshak) Swanson. He attended Huron High School, graduating in 1957. He then attended South Dakota State University.

On May 23, 1964, Lyle married Janet Busch in Huron.

Lyle joined the United States Army on March 28, 1963 and served for three years, receiving his honorable discharge on February 25, 1966. After his discharge, Lyle started his career with the Bureau of Reclamation (WAPA).

In his free time, Lyle enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and completing crossword puzzles. He was a proud member of the American Legion, 40 et 8, Beadle County Sportsmen’s Club, and Friends of Maga Ta-Hohpi WPA Federal Fish & Wildlife Volunteer.

He is survived by his wife, Janet of Huron; his siblings, Margaret Greschke of Huron, and James Swanson of Janesville, WI; sisters-in-law, Sherry Swanson of Huron and Linda (Jim) Vandel of Sioux Falls; and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; brothers Roy, Thomas, William and Richard; sister Mary Kuhns; brother-in-law Ed Greschke; sisters-in-law, Betty Swanson, Helen Swanson, and Phyliss Swanson.
