Lyle Lorenz, age 87 of Huron, formerly of Esmond, SD, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2016 at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.

His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at Esmond United Methodist Church with burial in Esmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Lyle Lorenz, the son of Hans and Leona (Ulin) Lorenz, was born on August 14, 1929 in Esmond, SD where he attended school until the 10th grade. Lyle received his GED and also attended Huron College.  Lyle farmed in the Esmond area for many years until his retirement. He also worked for Homestake Gold Mine for six years.

Lyle married Peggy Spencer in June of 1950. To this union were born four children: Dan, Rod, Steve, and Kris.

Lyle married Viola Stevens on February 12, 1983 in Florida.

Lyle was a member of Esmond United Methodist Church for many years. He enjoyed farming, dancing, playing cards, gardening and taking care of his lawn, and he was a great cook. Lyle also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared in Lyle's life are his three children: Dan (Peggi) Lorenz of Athens, GA, Steve (Brenda) Lorenz of Sioux Falls, SD and Kris (Steve) Kappler of Iroquois, SD; three stepchildren, Randy (Pam) Lager of Carthage, SD, Richard Lager of Rapid City, SD, and Rod (Kathy) Bushman of Sioux Falls, SD; twelve grandchildren: Joy, Rebekah, Rodney, Keith, Derek, James, Jordan, Trevor, Chase, Jennifer, Jill, and Darla; several great-grandchildren; sister, Dolores Rowan of LaPalma, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Peggy in 1976; his wife, Viola in 2015; son, Rodney Lorenz; and two brothers, Larry and Leonard Lorenz.
