Lyle was the younger twin born September 25, 1940 in Huron, SD to Carl and Amanda (Kuehl) Boetel.  He attended Richland Center School #3 through the 8 th grade.  He graduated from Cavour High School in 1958 where he excelled in basketball and track.

After high school, Lyle worked in the locker in Cavour and drove the school bus before beginning to farm and ranch full time on the original Boetel homestead south of Cavour.  In 1963, Lyle married Jerrilyn Schade in Huron, SD.  Two children, Dawn and Jack, were born to this union.  In 1998, Lyle married Delores (Dee) Polzin at the farm south of Cavour.  Lyle was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Yale, SD and Mt Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron, SD serving in many capacities in each congregation including singing in the choirs.

Lyle worked hard and made a great life on the farm raising cattle, hogs, and grain until he was no longer able just a few years ago.  He was chairman of the Cavour Elevator board and served on the Richland Township board for many years.  Lyle was involved in the community 4-H program as a leader and most notably as a softball coach.  He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball in his younger days and very much enjoyed playing cards with his family, friends, and neighbors.  Lyle was a terrific ballroom dancer; he and Dee taught lessons in Huron for a while.  He loved being a mentor to his 4 grandsons when they came out to the farm to work.  And everyone knows he was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife Dee, of Cavour, SD; daughter, Dawn (Marc) Birkeland of Huron, SD, and son, Jack Boetel, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren Alec (Becca) Birkeland of Thornton, CO and Aric (Desiree) Birkeland of Arlington, VA, Cody (Angie) Boetel, and Jake (Mikayla) Boetel of Sioux Falls, SD; 4 great-grandchildren Bentley, Weston, Lakon, and Lorraine of Sioux Falls, SD, along with several nieces and nephews.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Amanda Boetel, his sister Norma Boetel, brother and sister-in-law Robert and Gloria Boetel, and sister and brother-in-law Lila and Richard Stamp.
