Obituary

Lydia Schroeder, age 85, of 420 21st St SW, Huron, died Friday, February 11, 2005 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 16th at the American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at the Feistner Cemetery, rural Lane. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday morning. The family will be present from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Lydia Schroeder was born Lydia Wenz on June 15, 1919, to Martin and Caroline (Losing) Wenz Sr. at Vananda, MT. As a young girl, she and her family moved to South Dakota, north of Wessington Springs. She attended Schaefer Country School and as young girl kept house for a number of families. On February 20, 1941 Lydia was married to Raymond Schroeder and they lived on a farm north of Alpena. To this union two children, James and Patricia were born. They later moved to the Herman Schroeder farm south of Lane. Her husband was killed in an airplane accident in Montana on February 20, 1948. On January 27, 1950, Lydia married Walter Schroeder and they continued to live on the farm south of Lane. Walter died November 10, 1974. In early 1975 Lydia moved to Huron. She was employed at the Chef Cafe for a time, and from May 1977 to June 1999 she was employed at the Huron Nursing Home as member of the kitchen staff. Lydia was a member of American Lutheran Church in Huron and the Huron Area Senior Citizens. She is survived by one son, James R. (Audrey) Schroeder of Sturgis; and one daughter, Patricia K. (Rube) Adam of Mitchell; seven grandchildren, Kimberly (David) Derosier of Spearfish, Darren (Heather) Schroeder of Hot Springs, Gregg (Jackie) Schroeder of Brookings, Kristen (Clay) Cross of Sturgis, Tammie (Mark) Munsen of White Lake, Tracy Faulhaber of Plankinton, Travis (Mika) Faulhaber of Allen, Texas; 13 great grandchildren, four brothers, Henry (Leola) Wenz of Mitchell, Edward (Phyllis) Wenz of Howard, Albert (Fern) Wenz of Huron, LeRoy (Alice) Wenz of Huron and one sister, Eva (Robert) Vilhauer of Huron; and also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Raymond and Walter, three brothers; Ervin, Martin and Walter, and a sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Schulz.
