Lydia was a member of Hutterthal Mennonite Church (Prairie Bible Church). She taught Sunday school for many years and was active in the ladies group and sang in the choir. Lydia and Gearhard enjoyed hosting missionaries in their home as well as encouraging them in their work on the mission field. She was an excellent cook. She loved to travel and every fall Lydia and Gearhard took a vacation. Lydia also enjoyed attending the activities of her grandchildren. She traveled to numerous choir concerts, plays, basketball games, and golf meets. When they retired to Huron, Lydia and Gearhard attended Bethesda Church where they served as greeters.
