Luvie Hooks, age 72, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. Her funeral service will be at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Huron. Visitation, with her family present will be from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, March 17, with a prayer service to begin at 6:30 PM at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Luvie Leola Hooks went home to Jesus and her husband, James, on March 10, 2020. Luvie was born February 12, 1948 to the late Theodore and Dorothy Williams in Rosedale, Mississippi. She grew up in Mississippi with her twelve brothers and sisters. She later moved to Detroit, MI where she was united in marriage with James Hooks. Luvie spent most of her adult life in Detroit, MI and Seattle, WA before moving to Huron, SD in 2000.

Luvie, aka "Cakes", is most known for her kind, loving heart. She treated everyone as family. She always had the ability to make you laugh because she didn't mince words and was a straight shooter when it came to offering her opinion. Her accomplishments in the kitchen were like none other. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. She was an avid fan of whatever sport her grandchildren were playing in. she had strong convictions and stood by her belief in God through all tribulations in life, in good times or in bad. Her faith in the Lord never wavered.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: daughter, Zenia Lanier of Huron, SD, 4 sons, Michael Williams of Huron, Kim (Kelly) Hooks of Maple Valley, WA, Lorenzo (Arynne) Williams of Huron, and Gordon (Kelli) Hooks of Huron; 16 grandchildren, Leondis, Luvie, Marquita, Latavia, Zaniyah, Addysen, Brianna, Isian, Julius, LadyShimaray, Larenzo, Jr., Lynden, Lean, Hayden, Brevan, and Kenli; 11 great-grandhcildren, Davonte', Lewis, Makiya, Leyonna, Sincere, Jermaine, Jamari, D'Avione, D'Andre, Armaryanna, and Chandler; 2 sisters, Dorothy McCain and Daisy (L.C.) Murray; 3 brothers, Roosevelt, Theodore JR, and Ivory (Marvin) Williams; 1 sister-in-law, Pearline; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Theodore and Dorothy Williams; her husband, James Hooks; 2 sisters, Eunice Cal and Shirley; and 5 brothers, Robert, Calvin, Ricky, Vertis, and Jimmy; and 1 sister-in-law, Wanda Williams.
