Luverne Kenneth Marvel, age 98 of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Huron, SD, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, SD.

His funeral service will 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD, with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery and Military Honors by the Huron Veterans Council.

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the start of the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Luverne Kenneth Marvel, the son of Edward and Florence (Morris) Marvel, was born on April 2, 1919 in Wessington, SD.  He attended school and graduated from Wessington High School.  Following his graduation, Luverne worked two years on the construction of the Sheridan Dam in the Black Hills.

Luverne married Edith Helen Palmer on December 19, 1941 in  O'Neill, NE.  Luverne served his country in the U.S Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in November of 1945.  After he returned, Luverne began working for the Armour Company of Huron retiring after 33 years of service.

Luverne enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowled in a League for over 50 years.  Luverne also loved woodcarving and gave many of his carvings to his children and many friends.

Grateful for having shared in Luverne's life are his daughter, Nancy Wilts of Sioux Falls, SD; granddaughter, Amy (Stuart) Hansen of Sioux Falls, SD; great-granddaughter, Brittney Hansen of St. Paul, MN; great-grandson, Nigel Hansen of Sioux Falls, SD; and many special nieces and nephews

Luverne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith Helen Marvel; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Schwartz and Velma Wilke; and six brothers: Guy, Eddie, Jack, Leonard, William, and Robert Marvel.
