Obituary

Lucille L. Nelson, age 87, of Huron, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron, SD. Her funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2011, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, at the Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Lucille L. Woodcock, the daughter of Albert and Minnie (Hemmerlick) Woodcock, was born on August 2, 1924, in Alcester, SD, in Union County. She attended several schools in Union County, and graduated from the 8th grade in 1939. Lucille married Iner Nelson on February 13, 1943, in South Sioux City, NE. Lucille and Iner farmed in Union County until March of 1948. It was during their time here that their two children, Arnold and Janet were born. In March of 1948 they purchased a farm in Clark County near Willow Lake, SD. Lucille and Iner farmed there until April of 1969 when they sold part of the farm and moved to Huron, SD. During the later years on the farm Lucille worked part-time at Ward's General Store in Bryant, SD. Lucille also worked for different retail stores in Huron and owned her own clothing shop for a few years. Lucille retired in 1985. Lucille enjoyed reading magazines, flowers, bird watching, and wallpapering. She love to spend time with her family and friends. Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband of 68 years, Iner, of Huron, SD; son, Arnold (Ruth)Nelson of Wichita Falls, TX; daughter, Janet (Richard) Austin of Frankfort, SD; 3 grandchildren: Dawnette Austin of Willow Lake, SD, Leah (Bob) Suhr of Mitchell, SD, and Yvonne McDonald of Huron, SD; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Virginia) Woodcock of Lake Preston, SD; and several nieces and nephews. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Minnie; and step-father, Joe Buum.
