Lucille Dirks, age 93, of Huron, SD, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
Her memorial service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD.

Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home on Thursday.

Lucille Dougherty, the daughter of Patrick and Orpha (Norwood) Dougherty was born on November 28, 1924 in Carter, SD.  She attended school and graduated from Winner High School and attended Black Hills College.  She taught six years in rural schools. Lucille worked for 19 years in the Huron School District. After retiring she volunteered in the elementary schools.

Lucille married Earl Thomas Dirks on October 29, 1949 in Clearfield, SD.   The couple lived in several South Dakota towns as Earl worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Lucille and Earl were blessed with three children. They settled in Huron. Earl passed away on January 9, 1987. Lucille moved to Madison for seven years, returning to Huron in 2007.

Lucille was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church and the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron.  She was also a member of the NSCD Club and remained friends with the members for over 50 years.  Lucille's main interests were her grandkids and great-grandkids. She loved family get togethers and being outdoors. She looked forward to the yearly visits at Winner with her family and an occasional casino visit. She also enjoyed playing cards with her neighbors.

Grateful for having shared in Lucille's life are her two daughters Kathy Eining of Huron, SD and Carol Ann Dirks also of Huron, SD; four granddaughters: Angie, Julie, Carly, and Tammy; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne (Judy) Dougherty of Renner SD; Sisters, Betty "Suz" Sell and Mary Lou "Mick" Phillips, both of Winner; and many nieces and nephews.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl in 1987; son, Tom; 3 sisters; granddaughter, Mary Williams; and son-in-law, William Eining.
