Lorraine Anderson was born on a farm near Bryant on June 25, 1949, to Lloyd and Ardis (Pommer) Anderson. She married Lyman Nelson on October 3, 1975, at the First Presbyterian in Huron. Lorraine served her country in the U.S. Navy. She was enlisted in October of 1967. Stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and honorably discharged in October of 1970. She received the National Defense Service Medal. After returning to South Dakota, she worked a couple different jobs before finding her home at Farmers Union Insurance as their bookkeeper for 39 years.

Growing up, Lorraine and her family had a love for horses and enjoyed participating in rodeos. While in the Navy she continued to enjoy being in rodeos and was the 1968 Rodeo Queen at the first ever All Armed Forces Rodeo held in Great Lakes, Illinois where she also took first place in the barrel racing event.

Lorraine loved classical music, especially a good waltz, and she loved to dance. Her favorite hobby was crocheting, having made a countless number of blankets over the years. If you were fortunate enough to receive one of her creations, then know you held a special place in her heart.

After retirement, camping became the new hobby. Every spring, we would sit down and schedule our camping trips.  We have camped at many state parks over the years, but in the end, Wylie Park in Aberdeen was her favorite place to visit.

Grateful for sharing in her life is her husband Lyman of Huron, her daughters Amy Fleischhacker, Jennifer (Jason) Stigge of Huron, four grandchildren Avarey Beals, Cullen Beals (Cassie Valer), Nicholas Fleischhacker, Sarah (Jordan) Gonzalez, and one great grandchild Katerina Gonzalez.

Preceding her in death were her parents Lloyd and Ardis Anderson, her brothers Leroy & Erwin (infant) Anderson, a sister LaVonne(infant), sister-in-law Verna Herker and her best friend Margie Welke.
