Obituary

Lorraine Moen, age 89, of Huron, SD, died on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at the Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron, SD. Her Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2011 at the American Lutheran Church in Huron, with burial in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Huron, SD. Visitation, with the family present, will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, September 2, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service at the Church on Saturday. Lorraine Evangeline Lanning was born April 17, 1922 to Bernhardt and Hulda (Swanson) Lanning on the family farm near Renville, Minnesota. She grew up in Renville County and graduated from High School in 1940. She received her cosmetology degree in 1944. She married Vernon Cronen in Colorado Springs. In 1959 Lorraine married Hans K. Moen on August 8, and moved to Huron, SD. Lorraine was a member of the American Lutheran Church and the women's church circle. She worked at the Colonial Bakery and Café and the Violet Tschetter Memorial Nursing Home for a number of years. Lorraine and Hans both donated many hours at the Huron Senior Center serving on the Ways and Means fundraising committee. Lorraine was also a member of Beadle County Master Gardeners, South Dakota Horticulture Society. She was very active in the VFW women's auxiliary, and the United Commercial Travelers. One of her favorite past times was spending time fishing with Hans and the grandchildren. Lorraine also enjoyed embroidery, especially embroidering dish towels for her family. Lorraine was a lifelong and passionate fan of the Minnesota Twins, and loved spending time reading. Lorraine is survived by her children: Barbara (and Floyd) Condron of Parker, Colorado; Glenda (and Dick) Oakley of Huron; Carol (and Larry) Bigbey of Parker, Colorado; Joseph (and Mary) Cronen of Littleton, Colorado; Robyne (and John) Holforty of Centennial, Colorado; Richard (and Dawn) Moen, of St. James Missouri; and Marlys Tracy of Parker, Colorado; three brothers: Virgil Lanning of Sacred Heart, MN, Rodger Lanning of Renville, MN, and Dale Lanning of Alexandria, MN; 17 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; and special friend, Sharon Rex. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hans Moen and first husband, Vernon Cronen, son David Cronen, infant daughter, Donna Cronen; son inlaw, Dwight Williams, infant granddaughter, Jennifer Moen, great granddaughter, Madyson Williams.; 5 brothers, 1 sister and a set of twins. The family requests that memorialsmaybe made in Lorraine's to the Youth Programs of the American Lutheran Church.
