Lorraine E. Byerly, age 88, of Huron, died Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron, SD.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2010, at the Huron Christian Church in Huron with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Her visitation will be from 1-8 p.m., Sunday August 22, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with the family present at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m.; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Lorraine E. Barber, the daughter of Benjamin and Esther (Albin) Barber, was born on November 16, 1921, in Worthington, MN. She attended school in Worthington, MN, and graduated from Huron High School. Lorraine married Donald R. Byerly on February 5, 1941, in Sibley, IA. The couple lived in Huron.
Lorraine was a member of the Huron Christian Church. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Womens Auxiliary, and was a member of the American Legion Womens Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing bingo, fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren and family. Lorraine also enjoyed her Tuesday night coffee club with Betty, and the rest of her friends at SunQuest.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her 2 daughters, Dianne Sammons of Huron, and Donna Georgie Chancellor of Concordia, KS; 5 grandchildren: Renee (Mark) Schleis, LeMars, IA, Angela (Phil) Goombi, Bellville, KS, Daniel Sammons, WA, Tracie Walton, Wichita, KS and Candace (Mike) Moore, Huron, SD; 8 great grandchildren: Derek (Amy) Timperley, Sunnyvale, CA, and Trevor Timperley, LeMars, IA, Jayde Hein, Mitchell, SD, Tera Walton, Manhattan, KS, Nikki Schleis, LeMars, IA, Autumn Walton, Bellville, KS, and Mikena and Adison Moore, Huron, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald in 2002; infant son, David; 2 brothers, Roy and Loren Barber; and 3 sisters, twin sister Elaine Hershman, Violet Lukehart, and Eleanor Schaeffer.
