Lorine G. Davis, age 104, of Highmore and formerly of Wessington and Huron, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Highmore Health. A gathering in Lorine's honor will take place on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wessington, after the morning church service.
Lorine Gladys Davis was born on March 18, 1919 in Hand County, South Dakota to parents Charles Henry and Anne Elizabeth (Haywood) Metschke. Lorine attended school in Wessington, graduating with the class of 1938. She married Archie Earl Davis on May 2, 1939 in Sioux Falls. Archie passed away in 1973.
Lorine and Archie made their home in Wessington until she moved into Huron in 2005. Lorine worked at the bank in Wessington for 29 years. She also worked at the grocery store and the scenic theater. She stayed busy by helping organize the city library, the swimming pool, and the park and housing corporation. She was an officer in the Community Club and Building Association. Lorine was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Wessington.
Lorine is survived by her son, Ronald (Dorothy) Davis of Thornton, Colorado; her grandchildren, Bartt (Catherine) Palmer of Somerset, WI, Gail (James) Thomas of Pierre, SD, Ronald (Kyle Kimmal) Davis II of Denver, CO, and Heather (Tim) Oberbroeckling of Walden, CO; 3 great-grandchildren, Kyle (Ashley) Palmer of Gillette, WY, Thomas Fischer of Pierre, and Elizabeth Oberbroeckling of Walden, CO.
She was preceded by her parents; her husband, Archie; her sisters, Alice Chercus and Mildred Beadles; her daughters and sons-in-law, Judith (Darrell) Palmer and Marlys (James) Gamber; her grandchildren, Brett and James Palmer and Penny and Andy Gamber.
