Lori Jean Murphy, 57, of Huron passed away at her home surrounded by family and close friends on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 due to a short battle with cancer. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am on Saturday, August 12th at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with interment following at St. Martin's Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5-7 pm on Friday, August 11th at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron followed by a scripture prayer service and time of sharing beginning at 7 pm; or visitation one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church on Saturday.
Lori was born to Richard and Sonja Gunderson in Huron on September 21st, 1959. She went to Huron High School and graduated in 1977. Lori was united in marriage to Keith Murphy on April 11th 1975 and to this union, they had two children, Camma and Beau.
Lori painted with Ruth Quiram and later had her own painting business, before deciding that she wanted to advance her career. Lori received her Bachelors in Nursing from Huron University. Lori then worked at Huron Regional Medical Center for several years. In 2004 she started to work for the South Dakota Foundation for Medical Care, where she met many new friends and was respected by doctors and nurses alike. Lori enjoyed her career as a nurse and providing exceptional care to patients. Lori continues to be praised by patients when in public for a job well done. Lori's professionalism and knowledge in her area were extraordinary. Lori and Keith also have been part owners of the Red Arrow Bar in Huron for the last 20 years. Lori enjoys spending time with her children, and grandchildren. Lori and Keith enjoyed riding motorcycles, going on trips, and just being near family. Lori was the matriarch, she was quick witted, beautiful and intelligent. She will be greatly missed. Fly with the angels my dear wife, mom, and nana, we love you dearly, you taught us how to live with you here, however how do we do this without you.
Survivors include her husband Keith Murphy of Huron; two children, Camma Murphy of Canton SD and Beau (Leah) Murphy of Huron, SD; Grandchildren, Shelbi Murphy and special friend Austin Rock of Harrisburg, SD, Mckennah Murphy of Huron, SD, Mazzie Murphy and her special friend Tanner Schnabel of Huron, SD, Hudson Murphy of Huron SD, Nash Murphy of Huron, SD; Great Grandchildren, Haizyn Murphy of Huron, SD, Grey Murphy of Huron, SD, and Axill Rock of Harrisburg, SD; two great grandbabies on the way; and great granddaughter, Delaynee Emma Schnabe, Angel in heaven; her parents Richard and Sonja Gunderson of Huron, SD; one brother, Mark (Laurie) Gunderson of Sioux Falls, SD, and one sister, Dawn Olmstead of Sioux Falls.
Proceeded in death by her grandparents, aunts, uncles, great granddaughter, Delaynee Emma Schnabel.
