Loretta M. Petersen, age 78, of 1305 1st St. SW, Huron, died Monday, September 11, 2006 at her home. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Friday, September 15th at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan Boehne officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday afternoon and evening with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM or Friday until the time of service at the Welter Funeral Home. Loretta M. Petersen was born Loretta Mae Hafner on October 14, 1927, to Jacob and Caroline (Brenner) Hafner on a farm 4 miles northwest of Alpena. She attended school in rural Beadle County. She left home at an early age and worked with her aunt Alvina Krutzfeldt at the Virgil Cafe and then at Armours where she met and married LeRoy K. Salmon. They lived and worked in the Huron area. She married Dwayne L. Petersen and they resided in Huron until the present time. Her hobbies and interest were horseback riding, camping, cooking and her family. She is survived by her husband Dwayne of Huron; 5 sons, Gary (Marvelyn) Salmon, Gene Salmon and Ron (Shawn) Salmon all of Gillette, WY, Jim Salmon of Huron and Bob (Diane) Salmon of Hanson, ID; 1 daughter, Marsha Hanson of Huron; 3 step-sons, Nels Petersen of Johnstown, CO, Robert (Betty) Petersen of North Platte, NE and Ronald (Jan) Petersen of Hampton, NE; 21 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Tom (Florence) Hafner and Jacob Hafner Jr. both of Alpena; 2 sisters, Marilyn (Vernal) Hanson of Huron and Linda (Gary) Evensen of Rapid City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one stepson Steve Petersen and 1 son-in-law, Roger Hanson. Casket bearers will be Chad Hanson, Tory Salmon, Dusty Salmon, Cody Salmon, Mark Cecil and Dale Salmon.
