Lois R. Polfus, age 76, of Huron, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at her home in Huron under hospice care.

Her Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Faith Alive Church (formerly First United Methodist Church) in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation, with her family present will be from 4-6 PM on Tuesday, July 25, at Welter Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6 PM.

Lois Ruth was born on August 27, 1946, in Tyler, Minnesota to parents Carl and Helen (Kaufman) Herberg. Lois joined older sister, LaVerle. Lois grew up in Ruthton, Minnesota, graduating from high school in 1964. She then moved to Sioux Falls to attend Nettleton Commercial College where she graduated with an accounting certificate in 1965.

Lois worked for Jack Rabbit Bus Lines from 1965-1978 in Sioux Falls. She married Raymond E. Polfus in Sioux Falls on February 20, 1978. The couple moved to Huron that same year and started their family. In 1993, Lois started working for the South Dakota State Fair as an auditor, a position she held until 2023. She also worked at Coborn's from 1993 to 2016.

Lois was involved in many different groups and organizations. She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church, BCNU Extension Club for over 30 years, Aetna Wonder Workers 4-H Club for 9 years, torch bearer with the Minnesota Farmer's Union in 1967, many card clubs, bird clubs, and craft groups. Lois was a creative person and enjoyed crafting. She loved to go on bus trips, traveling the United States.

She is survived by her children, Rachel Polfus Marshall (Significant other Dale Ames) and Raymond A. Polfus (Significant other Michelle Hohn), all of Huron; two step-grandchildren, Gracee and Olivia Thompson, of Huron; and her "dog grandchildren", Ringo and Sammie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond E. in 2006, 2 infant brothers and 1 infant sister, and her sister LaVerle Stevens in 2020.
