Lois Eden, age 96, of 50 7th St. SE, Huron, SD, died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Burial will be at St. Martin Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1-8 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and a Rosary at 7 p.m.; or Saturday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. The family can be reached at 1835 Idaho Ave. SE, in Huron. Lois Eden was born Lois Margaret Kretchmer on July 8, 1911, to John and Margaret (Foley) Kretchmer in Huron, SD. She lived in Beadle County her entire life. She graduated from Huron High School and received her Bachelors Degree in education from Huron University. She began a 38-year career in education by teaching in country schools in Beadle County. Later she taught 5th grade at the Hitchcock Elementary School until her retirement in 1977. On October 14, 1940, Lois married Raymond Eden in Huron. They farmed southwest of Huron until 1963 when Raymond died. Lois moved into Huron and continued teaching until her retirement. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish (St. Martin Church), Catholic Daughters, Good Will and Willing Workers Club, CBU Bridge Club, William Reaves American Legion Post #7Auxiliary, 8 et 40 Salon, and Forrest McMullen VFW Post #1776 Auxiliary. Lois enjoyed teaching, reading, playing cards and Bingo. She traveled throughout the United States in her earlier years. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Karen (Keith) Moe of Woonsocket; 4 grandchildren, Kevin (Amber) Moe of Huron, Kurt (Kari) Moe of Sioux Falls, Kristin Eden of Long Lake, MN, and Stacy Eden of Grand Rapids, MI: 6 great grandchildren, Zoe Eden Walker, Landon Moe, Brody Moe, Kassie Foster, Gavin Moe, and Kaiden Eden Collins; a brother, John Kretchmer of Rapid City; a daughter-in-law, Jane Knutson of Long Lake, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond on June 3, 1963; her son, Robert; 3 brothers, Don, Harold, and infant Kenneth; 2 sisters, Genevieve and Marjorie; and a great grandson, Garrett Moe.
