Lois Duxbury, age 101, of Miller, SD, formerly of Wessington, SD, died Friday, February 28, 2014, at Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Wessington First Presbyterian Church with burial in the Wessington Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 4, from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Wednesday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Lois Mae McNeil was born August 21, 1912, to Clyde and Sarah (Dahlman) McNeil on the family farm south of Wessington in Rose Hill Township, Hand County, South Dakota. She attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Wessington High School in 1931. She attended Northern State College for one year and taught at a rural school for one year. In 1933 Lois married Joy Duxbury and they farmed and ranched south of Wessington with his father raising purebred Hereford cattle. After 50 years they moved to Wessington and their son continued on the farm. Her husband died in 1986 and she lived in Wessington for 25 years. In August 2008 she moved into the Courtyard Assisted Living in Miller and in May 2010 she moved into Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Miller. Se was a member of the Wessington First Presbyterian Church; Presbyterian Women; Eastern Star; and Royal Neighbors. She is survived by two sons, Robert (Rose Ann) Duxbury of Wessington, and Wendell "Jack" (Shirley) Duxbury of Huron; two daughters, Joyce (Gene) Rowen of Waconia, MN, and Jean (John) Lakner of Rockwall, TX; 14 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law, Marjorie Duxbury; and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986; her parents; 4 brothers, Lloyd, Chester, Lyle, and Kenneth; a sister, Ula at the age of 3; 4 sisters-in-law, Ethel, Helen, Hazel, and Blanche; and a brother-in-law, William Duxbury.
