Obituary

Lois E. Allen, age 91, of 1345 Michigan Ave. SW, and formerly of 469 Dakota Ave. N., Huron, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Monday, May 2, at the First United Methodist Church Chapel with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery, rural Iroquois. Friends may call from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Sunday at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Monday morning. The family will be present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home. Lois Allen was born Lois Evelyn Drake on February 23, 1914, to Delbert and Grace (Davis) Drake on a farm two miles north of Bancroft, SD. She graduated from Bancroft High School in 1932. After graduation she remained at home except for a short period of time at Anton, IA. On June 6, 1936, Lois married Robert Allen and they lived on the McAllister farm two miles north of Manchester. She was active in the Manchester Presbyterian Church, helped organize the 4-H Club in the community, and served as a 4-H leader. In 1954, the couple moved to De Smet where Lois worked at the Super Valu Grocery Store. They moved to Huron in 1964 where she worked at Stivers Hardware Store, and the Farmers Market Grocery Store. She retired in 1976. Lois became a resident of the Huron Nursing Home on December 28, 1999. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Huron. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, yard work, and flower gardening. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior on January 15, 1973. She is survived by 5 daughters, Sandra Flindt of Huron, Sylvia Ross of Lansing, MI, Janice Allen of Livonia, MI, Carole (Frank) Schwartz of Raleigh, NC, and Connie (Dennis) Schnabel of Mitchell; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Opal (Wallace) Iverson of Sioux Falls; a special niece, Phyllis Fenner of Iroquois; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert on May 1, 1977; 1 sister, Alma Chilstrom; 4 brothers, infant Orval, Harvey, Willis, and Darrel.
