Obituary

Lloyd G. Melber, age 92, of 1345 Michigan Ave SW, Huron, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 4th at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Whipkey officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM with the family present from 5 - 7 PM or Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home. Lloyd George Melber was born on May 14, 1915, to George and Ursula (Lieske) Melber on the family farm near Orient, SD. He attended country school in Park Township, Riverside Township and graduated from St. Lawrence High School in 1933. He lived in Hand County until March of 1942 when he entered the United States Army Air Corps and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army Air Corps in November of 1945, when he moved to Huron. On February 4, 1950, Lloyd married Marjorie F. Mickey Ferris at the Methodist Church in Huron. Lloyd was employed with the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for 31 years. He was a member of William Reaves American Legion Post #7, Forrest McMullen Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1776, 40 et 8, Huron Elks, 8th Air Force, Historical Society and AARP. He is survived by 1 brother, George Melber of St. Lawrence, SD; 3 sisters, Elsie Love of Huron, Eva Nissen of Miller, SD and Arlene Templeton of Rapid City, SD and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mickey on May 5, 2003, his parents, and 4 sisters, Rosine Schwartz, Frieda Porter, Mary Estes and Louise Reddix.
