Lloyd Hill, age 88, of rural Huron, died Friday, February 13, 2009, at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, NC.
His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 21, at American Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m.; or Saturday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.
Lloyd Theodore Hill was born on May 25, 1920, to Lloyd and Vina (Stransky) Hill on the family farm south of Huron, SD, where he resided until his death. He attended Cain Creek Country School for 8 years, and Huron High School.
On February 20, 1942, Lloyd married Grace Bowder in Huron. They operated and lived on the Hill family farm all of their married life.
During the 20-year period prior to Graces death the couple wintered in Mesa, AZ. After Graces death, Lloyd wintered in Asheville, NC.
He was a member of American Lutheran Church, Farmers Union, Clifton Township Board of Directors, Farmers Elevator Board of Directors, Election Board, and a 4-H leader.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Gerri (Rod) Boyd of Huron, and Jeanne (Don) Walton of Asheville, NC; 5 grandchildren, Todd (Nancy) Boyd of Mitchell, SD; Teresa (Bryan) Smith of Huron, SD; Jacki (Dave) Roy of Mitchell, SD; Michele (Darren) Cady of Asheville, NC; and Melissa (Scott) Plemmons of Asheville, NC; 14 great grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan, and Spencer Boyd of Mitchell, SD; Emma, Hannah, and Will Smith of Huron, SD; Alyssa and Sara Roy of Mitchell, SD; Jacob, Allison, and Michael Cady of Asheville, NC; Kelsey, Jackson, and Katelyn Plemmons of Asheville, NC; and one sister, Cora Mae Liem of Sun City, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Grace on July 19, 2003; and one great granddaughter, Abby Roy.
