Obituary

Lloyd Gilland, age 90, of 1345 Michigan Ave SW, Huron, and formerly of Iroquois, died Sunday, August 1, 2004, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, August 5, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Kris Larson officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening or Thursday morning prior to the service at the funeral home. Lloyd Gilland was born on May 13, 1914, to Arthur and Ann (Rice) Gilland at Huron. He attended school in Huron and graduated from Huron High School. After graduation Lloyd served in the United States Army during World War II. After his honorable discharge he moved back to Huron where he was employed with the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad for 30 years. On July 4, 1951, Lloyd married Thelma Snyder at Huron. They lived in several communities, including Iroquois. Lloyd was a life member of Forrest McMullen Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1776, the William Reaves Legion Post #7, both of Huron, and the DAV of Mitchell. Lloyd liked to collect trains as a hobby. He is survived by his wife, Thelma of Iroquois; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leroy, Harry, and Everett Gilland; and one sister, Edna Olin.
