Lionel E. Withrow Jr., age 63, of Leola, SD, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2012, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. His Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 18, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD, with burial at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at rural Iroquois, SD. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday, August 17, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Friday night; or one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Lionel E. Withrow Jr., the son of Lionel and Mary (Taylor) Withrow, was born on December 4, 1948, in Charleston, WV. He was raised by his grandparents, George and Nancy Alice Taylor, and attended school in the Charleston area. Lionel served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in December of 1970. Lionel worked as a manager for the Post Office for several years. Lionel married Nancy Edgell and to this union was born Vicky and Andrea. He then married Donna Maynard and to this union was born Clayton and Kevin. Lionel married Alice Metter-Miedema on August 15, 2002, in Parrisburg, VA. Lionel was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and the United Postal Workers Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and remodeling houses. Lionel loved the outdoors. Lionel also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and loved them dearly. Grateful for having shared in Lionel's life are his wife, soulmate, and best friend, Alice Withrow of Leola, SD; two daughters, Vicky (Scott) Webb of Cross Lanes, WV, and Andrea Kerns of Charleston, WV; two sons, Clayton Withrow of Louisville, KY and Kevin Withrow of Russell, KY; step-daughter, Candice (Seth) Klipfel of Aberdeen, SD; four grandchildren: Caitlyn, Star, and Ethan Kerns and Noah Klipfel; two brothers, Jerry (Kathy) Withrow, and Keith Withrow, both of Cross Lanes, WV; sister, Doreen (Roger) Moore of Charleston, WV; brother-in-law, Dale (June) Metter of Huron, SD; sister-in-law, Connie (Ralph) DeJean of Huron, SD; and several nieces and nephews. Lionel was preceded in death by his grandparents, and parents.
