Linda Jurgens, age 58, of Alpena, died Saturday, February 18, 2006, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 22, at the United Parish of Alpena with Rev. Sarah Herman officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery at Alpena. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday morning. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Linda Sue Jurgens was born February 3, 1948, to Harold and Rena (Brass) Jurgens at Alpena, SD. She grew up on farms northeast of Alpena and in Jerauld County west of Alpena. Linda attended Plainview school and graduated from Alpena High School in 1966. In 1971, she graduated from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen with a degree in education. She taught school for 31 years in Agar, Northwest Harmony, Florence, Corsica, and Alpena. In 2003, she retired when the Alpena School closed. Although she never married, she treasured her nieces, nephews, and their children very much, and was willing to lend a helping hand to any one of them. They knew whom to call on at a moments notice. Linda was an avid reader and also enjoyed crossword puzzles. Collecting owls was a favorite past time for her. She was on the Alpena Cemetery Board of Directors, and was a blood donor for many years. She devoted the past several years caring for her parents. She is survived by 2 sisters, Shirley (Ron) Schroeder of Alpena, and Ina Mae (Paul) Kopfmann of Alpena; 1 brother, Richard (Kathleen) Jurgens of Alpena; 10 nieces and nephews; 22 great nieces and great nephews; and 2 very special friends of over 30 years, Lois Sundling and Bonnie Gibson. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
