Obituary

Lily Parkhurst, age 84, of DeSmet, and formerly of Huron, died Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at the DeSmet Good Samaritan Center at DeSmet. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Friday, October 29, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday afternoon and evening or Friday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Friday afternoon. The family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home. Lily Parkhurst was born Lily Irene Trout on October 13, 1920, to Joseph and Lula (Robinson) Trout at Tracy, MN. She attended country school near the family farm at Tracy, MN. On June 24, 1939, Lily married Alexander Clifford Parkhurst at Milbank. SD. They farmed in the Huron, Amoret, MN, Cottonwood, MN, Iroquois and De Smet areas until 1970 and she worked at the Curve Cafe and Creamery in DeSmet. She also worked at the DeSmet Memorial Hospital and the Huron Regional Medical Center for many years. She provided care for people in their homes until her health forced her to retire. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Sunshine Squad. Her hobbies were crocheting, embroidery, sewing and her most precious time was spent with her family. Mom led a rich and full life. Her earthly presence will be missed, but we rejoice in the knowledge that she is now reunited with our father in heaven. She is survived by two sons, Clifford (Sandy) Parkhurst of Huron, and Edward Parkhurst of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Irene (Vance) McPeek of Mitchell and Janelle (Glen) Martens of DeSmet; ten grandchildren, Cindy (Dan) Dean, Lisa (Mike) Bich, James Parkhurst, Pam (Mike) Bunn, Jodi Parkhurst, Trisha Parkhurst, Jessica Parkhurst, Mark (Diane) McPeek, Rob (Dez) Cleveland and David Cleveland; sixteen great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; one brother, Donald Trout of Santa Rosa, CA; two sisters, Violet Loeck of Junction City, OR and Daisy Strom of Edgerton, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband Alex on October 15, 1999, her parents, her grandson Shane McPeek on June 6, 1992; her daughter-in-law Sharon Parkhurst; two brothers, Joseph and David Trout, and one sister Rose.
